The Proposal

While Dotty was away on a business trip for work, I headed to the airport myself. Destination - The Diamond District of New York City, New York.

Good friend, and best-man Paul T. who lives in Brooklyn Heights, with lovely wife and friend Elizabeth, guided me to the shop where he and Elizabeth had selected their diamond. If you're never been to the diamond district before, the scary looking fellows in front of each shop are there for your protection, unless you happen to be silly enough to run out from one of the shops... ;)

So - We go into the shop, I tell them the weight, cut, clarity and color I'm looking for, and they produce about twenty diamonds on the traditional black velvet. Having already exhausted the sales forces of Atlanta to teach and train me for this occasion, I spot one diamond that is simply _it_. Can't explain it any better than that. We go through the rest of the formalities, and the ring is shipped off to Atlanta(1)

. A few well placed phone calls from the cell phone, while Paul and Elizabeth kept their cats quietly pre-occupied in another room, and the entire trip went undetected.

So - I, after hiding a bottle of champagne in the fridge (not an easy task) , and receiving Dotty's parents' blessing, prepared for the proposal. I prepared a multi-course asian themed meal, sweating all the way through dinner. hehe For desert, I handed Dotty her fortune cookie, inside - a ring with a fortune reading,

"Will you marry me?"

The rest is happy memories, starting with Dotty not making fun of my best attempt at making a fortune cookie. ;)
