Las Vegas, Baby!

Dotty and I celebrated our one year anniversary (Sept 8th) in Las Vegas! :)

Hence the super-loud color and tacky background images! :)

A few interesting things to know about Las Vegas:

  • It's in Nevada
  • in the middle of a desert.
  • no, really.. it's in the middle of a _desert_.
  • all the water is piped in.
  • all the power is wired in.
  • all the food is trucked in.
  • how else can I put this... uhm.. their natural resource is _sand_
  • well.. sand and people with challenged math skills and statistical reasoning... ;)
  • (and people with good math skills, who under estimate the power of free drinks)

We also made it out to the Hoover Dam, and the South rim of the Grand Canyon. :)

Here are some pics! If you see a blue line around a picture, you can click it to get a large version (that will open in a new window).

Where it all Begins

The airport, of course. The first thing you'll see when get past the
"buh-bye" choir of flight attendants is the a collection of slot machines:

Some parting notes about Vegas:

  1. It's not as cool as on TV, but it's still pretty damn cool.
  2. The carpets are ugly, and the ceilings are boring for a reason - to keep your eyes on the money.
  3. It's hot, but there's hardly any humidity, which after living in Atlanta for a decade is wonderful.
  4. It's expensive, but most fun things are.
  5. The free drinks in the casino are watered down, so stick with the beer.
  6. The free beer is not exactly on a beer snob's list. ;)
