So - First priority - break `er down!
![]() Taking off the upper face plate and the keyboard cover is easy enough... |
![]() ... A word from our sponsor ... |
![]() A close-up of the gear works. There are three major sections to be removed. From Top to bottom - there's the entire action assembly (the bit with the hammers), then there are the keys themselves, and underneath the keys we'll find a lot of pins and pads. |
![]() The action assemly - front view. I'm not entirely sure how far I'm willing to go on cleaning this... hehe |
![]() The action assemly - rear view. |
![]() The action assembly is out - now onto the keys. |
![]() A close up of what's under the keys. On the bottom are guide pins with circular felt pads. What you can barely see, is underneath the felt are circular thick poster board spacers. The combination of spacers and felt pad make certain that all the keys descend to the same height, and feel, and do so quietly. |
![]() A very musical dining table. |
![]() The bottom face plate is removed. It hard to see, but the bottom has many issues: - The dust and expired mold is thick. - There's expired mold on the pedal levers. - The pedals are filthy. - If you look to the far right and left, you'll notice the bottom has actually dropped out! - Did I mention the bit about dust and mold? |
![]() Holy s*&%... There's wood grain under that!? It was at the point I realized, that the bottom was going to have to come off... |
![]() ohhh.. artsy... |
![]() ![]() Hey Mietzie? Whatcha' think of my little artsy photo? Ahh.. right.. ok.. fair enough. |
![]() "Do not try this at home." -or- "The piano had a few too many." |
![]() Two of the wood screws are stripped right out (#10 2"ers) and the bottom was a special kinda dirty. (That sounds dirty in itself.. ok.. that's enough for one day.) |
