These pictures give a very incomplete picture of the people and the culture. Many of these pictures are of villages and towns mainly populated by Mayan decendants. If you're looking at the pictures and thinking "slum", you've got the wrong idea. While they're definitely not idealized living conditions, there were very few places where I didn't feel as though we wouldn't have been able to walk into the town without any trouble, if not a friendly welcome.

The roofs are water proof, and help beat off the heat. They are very common
throughout the area, and the roof to our bungaloo room was built exactly the
same. They're made from bunches of palm leaves. They tend to have long lives,
as well.

The little red sign is for Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola and Pepsi both have their dirty lil'
hands all over Mexico. To the right is a commonly seen type of bicycle - the right
hand side of it, is the front. People use them to move around other people as well
as small loads. The children love to play with them, as well. They're something
like an old Raleigh bicycle.
